Scribe and Tango are polished tools with team workspaces, editing and branding. If you just need one clear how-to guide as a file, their free plans get in the way: you need an account and an extension, they only record inside the browser, and downloading a PDF is a paid feature. The SOP Recorder does that part for free.

- Is this a free alternative to Scribe and Tango?
- Yes. Like Scribe and Tango it turns clicks into a step-by-step guide with screenshots and AI-written instructions. Unlike their free plans, it works with any app, not just the browser, and downloads PDF and Word files, without an account or an extension.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. No sign-up and no watermark on the steps. The PDF and Word files have a small “Made with Perfect Wiki” line in the footer.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs in this page: your browser asks which tab, window or screen to share, and that’s it. There is no extension and no desktop app.
- What happens to my screenshots?
- Everything is processed in your browser; nothing is uploaded as a video. When the AI writes the descriptions, the screenshots of your steps are sent to our server and passed to OpenAI for that one request. We don’t store them. The PDF and Word files are built on your computer.
- Which browsers work?
- Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS or Linux. Firefox, Safari and phones can’t run the recorder yet.
- Why “alpha”?
- The recorder is new and we’re still improving how it finds your clicks. Some steps may need a nudge: move the circle, pick another moment, or remove a step. Tell us what went wrong and we’ll fix it.
