If you just need one clear how-to guide as a file, their free plans get in the way: you need an account and an extension, they only record inside the browser, and downloading a PDF is a paid feature. - Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs in this page: your browser asks which tab, window or screen to share, and that’s it. There is no extension and no desktop app.
- Does it work with Outlook, Teams and other desktop apps?
- Yes. When your browser asks what to share, pick the app’s window or your whole screen. The recorder sees whatever is on it, so desktop apps work as well as browser tabs.
- Where is my data stored?
- Nowhere on our side. The recording stays in your browser until you close the tab, and the PDF and Word files are built on your computer. When the AI suggests a title and writes the descriptions, the screenshots of your steps go through our server to the OpenAI API for that one request, with any areas you blurred already pixelated, and we don’t keep them. OpenAI doesn’t use API data to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor abuse. There’s no account, so nothing is stored under your name.
- Can I hide personal data in the screenshots?
- Yes. When you review a step, drag over any area to blur it: names, emails, customer records. Blurred areas are pixelated in the PDF, the Word file and in what we send to the AI, and you can copy them to the following steps in one click. You can also crop each screenshot to the part that matters.
- Which browsers work?
- Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS or Linux. Firefox, Safari and phones can’t run the recorder yet.
- How do I mark the steps?
- After you stop recording, it plays back. Press Enter (or Capture step) each time it shows a step: exactly that frame becomes the screenshot, with the pointer circled. Playback skips the parts where nothing changes, slows down where a lot happens and for a moment after each capture; pause it to pick a moment precisely.
- Why do I mark the steps myself?
- So there’s nothing to install. A web page can see the screen you share, but the browser doesn’t tell it where you clicked or what you typed; that’s why Scribe and Tango need an extension. Marking takes a minute, and each screenshot is exactly the frame you chose.
- Why “alpha”?
- The recorder is new and changing quickly. If a step looks off, pick another moment, move the circle or remove the step, and tell us what went wrong so we can fix it.
